Hunt on for the world’s best restaurants
Chefs and restaurateurs all over the world have already put April 26 into their diaries and personal organisers as this is the day on which the S. Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants will be named in London.
The awards event in the Guildhall in the City of London will be attended by the world's finest chefs, international media and the world's most influential restaurateurs.
The S. Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants Awards and List is organised and compiled by Restaurant Magazine, and sponsored by S. Pellegrino. The awards are now in their ninth year.
Last year Le Quartier Francais in Franschhoek and La Colombe in Constantia made the top 50 - in 37th and 38th places respectively. The Franschhoek restaurant was also named the best in the Middle East and Africa.
The 2009 best restaurant list was topped by El Bulli in Spain.
The list is created from The World's 50 Best Restaurants Academy, an influential group of over 800 international leaders in the restaurant industry. The academy comprises 27 separate regions around the world, and each region has its own panel of 31 members including a chairperson. The panel is made up of food critics, writers, chefs and "gastronomes" each of whom has five votes. Members vote for five restaurants (at least) and two of these votes must be used to recognise restaurants outside of the members' region.
The results are published around the world.
