New City Lodge at OR Tambo Airport opens 78 rooms
City Lodge has partially opened its 46th hotel. Some 78 rooms in the new City Lodge at OR Tambo Airport (the hotel's official name) opened yesterday, with the remaining 225 rooms completed by end-May. The 303-room hotels is located on three levels above a new car park at the airport in Johannesburg. Opening GM is Ian Laughland.
The hotel cost R210-million to develop and is operated by City Lodge through a land and building lease agreement with the Airports Company of South Africa. The partial opening comes just a week after the group fully opened its 45th hotel, the 211-room City Lodge Fourways.
Once it is fully operational, City lodge at OR Tambo Airport will employ around 110 people and will be the largest hotel in the City Lodge Hotels group.
Features include wireless internet in all rooms, breakfast restaurant, coffee shop, gym, swimming pool, bar, two functions rooms (seating 24 and 22 people) that can be combined into a 46-seater, a meeting room and a board room.
The hotel has arrival and departure screens, displaying all the details of flights to keep visits and guests updated without having to leave the hotel. The hotel also has easy access to all of the airport's shopping facilities and to the Gautrain airport terminal which is nearing completion.
