Lesotho Casino and Hotel reopens with new look
Sun International officially opened the refurbished Lesotho Casino and Hotel this week. The R140-million upgrade was jointly funded by Sun International and the Lesotho Government, which contributed R30-million.
The opening was hosted by Sun International CEO David Coutts-Trotter and the guest of honour was King Letsie III.
Having started in May 2009, the upgrade took 37 weeks of construction. Work included refurbishment of the casino, 158 guest rooms, the conference area, reception foyer, bars, buffet restaurant, kitchen and pool area, as well as the gym and spa.
Just over 300 people worked on the upgrade project and most of them were Lesotho citizens. The main contractor was Flash Construction, which is also Lesotho-based.
The hotel has 158 luxury air-conditioned rooms including two royal suites, four duplex rooms and 14 luxury rooms. All guest rooms have an en-suite bathroom, a 32-inch flat-screen television, a digital safe and high-speed internet access.
Facilities at the hotel include a laundry and dry cleaning service, car rental and business lounge.
Dining options include a buffet restaurant offering a variety of local and international fare, two bars and room-service.
Catering to both the business and leisure traveller, the Lesotho Casino and Hotel features conference facilities for up to 320 people. The 120-slot casino makes use of a cashless gaming system and also offers eight tables.
The design team responsible for the hotel's new look aimed to reflect the culture and traditions of the mountain kingdom in a contemporary setting. Earth tones have been used throughout to complement the sandstone exterior.
