New look for Phinda Forest Lodge
The Phinda Private Game Reserve, part of the &Beyond group of conservation-focused luxury properties, has revamped its Forest Lodge. The lodge, which opened some 16 years, is one of six accommodation offerings on the reserve which is situated in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Described as a "Zulu Zen" lodge, the property was gradually given a fresh look to ensure that the natural surroundings were preserved and no trees were felled during construction.
The layout of the suites has changed to ensure privacy and intimacy while focusing on the forest. The look has been updated, retaining the sophisticated signature style.
Woodwork was replaced, new floors and windows installed and the suites have been repainted. Bathrooms have been retiled and given a spacious new bathtub and they now feature twin hand basins and new fittings.
The stone and sand colour palate is accented with orange and dark furniture has been used throughout.
Over 100m has been added to the deck in the guest area, split into two levels. Guest area furnishings have been updated with additional layers and detail. The theatre of food now leads into the guest areas in an open breakfast zone.
The boma has been completely rebuilt using gabions filled with gum poles, adding depth and texture. The space has been reconfigured and an elevated platform added for evening choir performances.
